With funding from the Washington State Dept. of Ecology, a community-supported
plan is being developed to enhance the management of water
resources to meet the current and future needs of people
and fish. In 1998
the State Legislature passed HB 2514, the Comprehensive
Watershed Planning Act . It provides a framework within
which municipal,
Tribal, agricultural, commercial and other interests
can collaborate to develop balanced, local solutions to
water issues affecting
people and fish. Community members have joined together
in the WRIA 32 Planning Unit (local advisory group) and its sub-committees
to
address issues surrounding water quantity and instream flow, water quality,
and habitat elements in Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 32 across Walla Walla and Columbia counties. The
plan, focused on the Washington portion of the basin,
was approved in June, 2005. For a list of documents and publications relating to WRIA 32, please click here.
