The Walla Walla Basin Water Management Initiative (WMI) is a project to initiate a
partnership between the Walla Walla Basin stakeholders, including water-right holders,
and the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology). The project is currently in
the conceptual stage as stakeholders within the Walla Walla Basin begin to engage with
Ecology.
Water users and managers, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation,
watershed planning leads, local governments, community and environmental
organizations, and technical experts representing the Walla Walla Basin, assembled with
Ecology to facilitate the Water Management Initiative (WMI) in the Walla Walla Basin.
At the core of the WMI is a vision of a Basin-wide coordinated and cooperative water
management system in which all water users benefit by working together while
enhancing instream flows for fish.
